Today approximately 51 076 small and medium business entities represent the market functioning in Astana. Their number includes 4 030 individual entrepreneurs, 7 040 legal entities, and 6 peasant farms. This information is given to astana.kz by the Department of Statistics of Astana city.

As is known, small and medium business is one of important branches of the metropolitan economy. Over the past three months of the current year, 1 575 legal entities have been registered in the capital. Along with that most of new enterprises are concentrated in the sphere of construction (25%) and trade (22%). Provision of other services amounts to 13%; science and technical activities, as well as industry amount to 7% each. 4% on the average are of administrative and additional service, information and communications, transport and storage, and real estate operations; education and healthcare amount to 3%. The number of organizations providing catering and accommodation services, and the number of companies engaged in art, entertainment and recreation amount to 2% each. And 1% is of financial and insurance activities, public administration, and agriculture.
